Silent Pines High School was built on the old Lanier family land some time after the grand residence burned to the ground in the late 19th century. Though the performing arts programs are suffering, test scores in academics have been the highest in the county three years running.

Doogie’s has been a Silent Pines staple since 1946 when Doogie Van Allen used his post-war G.I loan to start his own diner. Though the building has gone through a lot of reconstruction during the years to add additional dining space and a drive thru, the original diner car is still featured at the main entrance. These days Doogie is comfortably retired while his grandson runs the family business. If you want the best burgers and milkshakes in town, Doogie’s is the place.

The ancestral Polk home was sold generations ago. The present-day seat of the Polk bloodline is a modest, modern brick ranch house in the Old Silent Pines area. The current living members of the Polk family include Sheriff George Polk, his mother Greta, and his only son Knucker.

The original location for the library was built not long after the town of Silent Pines was founded. Made of solid stone and featuring a clock tower, it’s one of the oldest historical buildings still standing. Several years ago there was an unexplained accident that blew out one of the outside walls. The contents of the library were moved to a downtown location until reconstruction could be finished—but no progress has been made in years. People theorize the reasons to be anything from permit issues to the site being haunted.
